This collection began with the sirens of Homer’s The Odyssey. Odysseus, attempting to sail home, is warned by the goddess Circe that among the many obstacles that await him are the sirens. If any man draws too close to them and hears their enchanting songs he is destined to die upon the rocks.

Sirens have been depicted in many forms. In early Greek art they are portrayed as birds with women’s heads, later, as women with wings and the legs of birds. From these terrifying figures the image of the siren transformed into that of a beautiful woman, who not only sang seductively but looked it too.

The idea of an alluring, dangerous woman, a femme fatale, is a recurring trope in literature, art, film and music. She is the ultimate temptress, seductive and dangerous to boot. The Atomic Love collection takes the idea of the siren and marries it with beautiful and destructive phenomena in nature – vortexes, volcanos, explosions – to create the five pieces here displayed: Kali – Mélisande – Salome – Lolita – Jadis.
